The sustainability regulatory landscape continues to evolve rapidly — and shows no signs of slowing down. Since our last Policy spotlight in September 2023, in-progress regulations have been finalized and new proposals have emerged, impacting all stages of the fashion and apparel value chain. For this quarterly briefing, we met with policy experts from Fashion Conveners’ member organizations to unpack the latest developments and shed light on what brands can do now to prepare.
APPAREL IMPACT INSTITUTE (Aii) RELEASES ITS 2023 IMPACT REPORT. The report shares updates, success stories and how Aii is supporting industry-wide collaboration to move the apparel and footwear supply chain closer to its ambitious 2030 decarbonization and financial unlock goals.
Aii PUBLISHES ITS ANNUAL ROADMAP TO NET ZERO REPORT UPDATE. In 2021, Aii and the World Resources Institute published the first edition of this report, evaluating the apparel industry’s emissions and calling for system-wide, collective action. Aii has committed to refreshing this analysis annually using the best available data and is pleased to share Taking Stock of Progress Against the Roadmap to Net Zero (2024).
CASCALE ANNOUNCES A NEW CEO. Cascale (formerly Sustainable Apparel Coalition) proudly appointed Colin Browne as its Chief Executive Officer. Browne brings a wealth of global experience in supply chains and both brand and factory management, leading Cascale into a new era of proactive and impactful sustainability practices.
FASHION MAKES CHANGE (FMC) RELEASES 2024 EDITION OF SCALING SUSTAINABILITY SOLUTIONS REPORT AT WOMEN’S WEAR DAILY SUSTAINABILITY SUMMIT. The third annual report is co-authored by FMC, Accenture, and WWD and compiles priority environmental and social impact solutions for the fashion industry and beyond. The report flips the traditional sustainability narrative on its head — shifting the focus and reimagining nine functional industry nodes, embedding sustainability everywhere to catalyze business profitability, social responsibility and environmental resilience.
THE FASHION PACT AND Aii ANNOUNCE MAJOR BRANDS’ COMMITMENT TO THE FUTURE SUPPLIER INITIATIVE. In partnership with Guidehouse and DBS Bank, The Fashion Pact and Aii shared that BESTSELLER, Gap Inc., H&M Group and Mango have committed to the Future Supplier Initiative – an innovative collective financing model for brands to support suppliers in accessing affordable loans to decarbonize their factories.
TEXTILE EXCHANGE SHARES THE FUTURE OF SYNTHETICS REPORT. This new report dives into the technologies and infrastructure that will facilitate the rapid substitution of virgin fossil fuel-derived synthetic materials to preferred solutions – such as textile-to-textile recycling, biosynthetics, and carbon capture. With this report, Textile Exchange is calling on the industry to divest from new fossil fuel extraction to make synthetic materials and provides brands with guidance on how to do so.
TEXTILE EXCHANGE SHARES INDIGENOUS PARTNERSHIP PRINCIPLES FOR THE FASHION, APPAREL AND TEXTILE INDUSTRIES. The principles were developed in partnership with Conservation International with direct input and leadership from Indigenous Peoples and local communities. This resource includes 12 criteria to guide companies to better center Indigenous Peoples’ and local communities’ rights and perspectives across product development initiatives and supply chains.
THE ZDHC FOUNDATION RELEASES ITS IMPACT REPORT. As part of ZDHC’s Impact Day on June 19, the ZDHC Foundation shared its second annual impact report detailing the activities and impact created over the past year and outlining its goals for the future. You can access the report on ZDHC’s website.
SEPTEMBER 9-11: CASCALE ANNUAL MEETING. Designed exclusively for the Cascale community, this event is an opportunity for more than 600 attendees from across the globe to connect around “a new era of unified impact”. (Munich + Virtual)

OCTOBER 28-31: 2024 TEXTILE EXCHANGE CONFERENCE. The annual Textile Exchange Conference is a space for leaders and experts from across the global fashion, textile and apparel industry to collaboratively explore challenges and solutions to overcome the climate crisis. (Los Angeles + Virtual)

JOIN Aii FOR ITS Q3 ENGAGEMENT DAYS FROM JULY 8-10. To better serve and connect with its global stakeholders, Aii is hosting engagement days over a 2–3 day period each quarter, making several informative webinars publicly available. This quarter’s theme is “Innovation, Implementation and Tracking.” Registration information will be available on Aii’s LinkedIn and Instagram accounts, and recordings of previous sessions are available on YouTube.
